OUR MISSION

Read-Cycle is a youth empowerment program created in 2018. Our mission is to inspire and enable Albertan indigenous and newcomer youths to pursue higher education and civic engagement. Additionally, our initiatives support youths in achieving social, mental, and physical wellbeing.

Our team members, comprised of youth volunteers across Canada, work year long to execute the following initiatives:


a. Read-Cycle Literacy Packages

Every August, our team curates and distributes literacy packages to over 200 program recipients.

A typical package will contain the following:

  • Two books with an emphasis on higher education and civic engagement. Younger youths may also receive classics.

  • 10-page directory document with a list of free and low cost mental, social, and physical wellness resources

  • Masks and hand sanitizers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Handwritten messages of welcome, encouragement, or community involvement advice from Edmontonians

  • Artwork from YEG artists and tips on using art to strengthen community service projects
